Flowers from my Sister

My sister Sheri makes the most beautiful paper roses. She makes them from coffee filters! She gave me a dozen pink ones for my birthday recently and I just love them! The light outdoors was beautiful this morning, so I took them out to get some pictures so I could share how pretty they are. Thank you Sheri! You brighten my world :)

Lunar Eclipse – December 10, 2011

I missed the last lunar eclipse. I don’t remember why, but I did feel bad about it. This time I was going to really try and capture it. The skies would be clear, but it would be extremely early and cold. For me, 5 AM and 9° F are extreme! After the moon was fully eclipsed the sky began to lighten. Dawn was in full swing when the moon dropped down into the haze of the horizon, so I considered myself lucky to get the whole first phase! What a beautiful rock to have suspended in our sky!

Happy Birthday America!

Fourth of July!
Independence Day!
Celebration!

But how many remember what the celebration’s for?
Can anyone remember the reason for the Revolutionary War?
Does anyone recall the night of the ride of Paul Revere?
Or how about the suffering of the soldiers that winter at Valley Forge?

So many have forgotten, although it wasn’t very long ago
That many fought and thousands died, for what we now take for granted
and casually set aside.

Freedom is the reason, and freedom fighters were the key
For the freedom we enjoy today from sea to shining sea.

So on this Fourth of July as the fireworks light up the sky,
Take a moment to reflect on the meaning
of Independence Day!

I truly love this country and the freedoms we have. As a way to show my appreciation for our military and their efforts to preserve our freedom and promote freedom in other parts of the world, I volunteer as webmaster for the charity Project TLC Serves. They are a large group of volunteers who work to bring some happiness and show appreciation to those who serve our country. What’s so wonderful about this charity is that ANYONE can help, no matter if you’re rich or poor, young or old. And it’s fun!

The main charity they operate is Project Rudolph, and around the Christmas holidays every year they provide thousands of our military members with a decorated gift bag containing a Christmas Tree ornament, a treat, and a personal hand written letter. This gift bag helps boost the spirits of those that are sacrificing so much for the cause of freedom. Because of the great need and the volunteer hours required, many people work on this year round. Their greatest need is the letters! A handwritten letter of appreciation is worth so much to a soldier so far from home. So as you think about how lucky we are to live in a free country, make a pledge to pause and write a letter to a soldier – and thank them.

Visit the website to find the best way you, your family and friends, or group can help. While you are there, be sure to visit the guest book and read some of the many sincere responses left by military members that have been the recipients of Project Rudolph, Operation Angel, and Project Portrait. Your heart will be touched :)

Idaho Paint the State Commercial

July 9th, 2010 by Cindy

My 14 year old nephew made this commercial for his entry in the Paint the State competition. It is really amazing! And it doesn’t contain the disturbing content that most anti-meth ads do. It shows how wonderful life is, but can be blown away by meth. Honestly though, life is so beautiful and fragile that ANY addictive drug can destroy it. Not just meth. It’s heart breaking to hear of people getting caught in this dangerous trap that destroys so many lives. Share this video – not only because it will help my nephew with his competition – but because it might influence someone to be strong and avoid making the mistake of trying meth. Just click on the YouTube icon in the lower right corner to be taken to the YouTube site for their “share” option, or use the ones below this post. Thank you!

Summer Solstice

June 22nd, 2010 by Cindy

Dear Summer,

Why don’t you want to stay?
I miss your burning kisses
and your soul warming embrace.

When Spring stopped by to tell me
that you were on your way
Her enthusiasm was lacking
then she quickly went away.

All winter time I longed for you
and knew return was nigh
For all the time we’ve spent together
could not be cast aside.

Now your solstice is upon us
It’s not optional, but still
Since you’ve hardly said hello,
the event will lose its thrill.

Autumn will be my last hope
for at least a warm goodbye
Then Winter, so dependable
will long be at my side.

~Cindy
