Erin and Jonathan’s Engagement Portraits

Considering I’ll soon be posting their wedding pictures, I probably ought to get their engagement portraits posted! Erin has been close friends with my daughters for years and our family just adores her. So when she asked if I’d shoot her wedding, I was very happy I was able to say yes! It was also great meeting Jonathan, who happens to be a pilot in the US Air Force, which I rank right up there with being one of the coolest jobs in the world! I’m so excited for them and I know they’re going to live happily ever after :)

Timeless

Some days have a mystical quality to them. This particular Saturday was especially so. The weather was extreme and almost overpowered our plans, so there was already a strange energy in the air. We had discussed costume, hair, and makeup, but I still did not know what to expect. Inviting someone else to share themselves in a combined creative vision is always an interesting experience. I wanted Miranda’s creative influence for this shoot because of her unique way of thinking outside the box. I wanted something different and I knew this would be a fascinating daydream.

When Angel stepped out of the car and into the storm, it was like she stepped through centuries of time. Her hair and makeup were unconventional, and her countenance held a thousand mysteries. In my studio, the costume became complete. It was bizarre – and beautiful. I am often inspired by those I’m working with, and Angel and Miranda were my muses this day. I matched the lighting with my new vision, and set about uncovering some of those mysteries Angel was presenting.

And then we went out into the storm, briefly ;)

And here’s a bit of fun retro! A pin up shoot with a twist – Cait wearing a burlap potato sack dress! This was inspired by a shoot Marilyn Monroe did back in the 50′s (Google It). As you can see, we had a lot of fun with it :) Click on the Burlap and Beauty image above or click HERE to watch the video on Youtube (it’s available in HD), or scroll to the bottom where I have a small version of it posted. It will make you smile :)

Roses and Balloons

January in Idaho is usually pretty rough. Cold, snow, and ice dominate the land. But this year we’ve had practically no snow, and on this particular day, we had no cold. We did have ice, as the lake was still frozen. For a January day, it was almost surreal.

Kortnee and I had been wanting to shoot together for some time. So when the weather guessers predicted a 50 degree day, I couldn’t let it slip by! Kortnee was fortunately available, and was the perfect model.

Since these pictures kind of tell their own sort of whimsical story, and I had the perfect music to bring that story to life, I couldn’t resist creating a slideshow. You can see it bigger and better (in HD) with the Youtube links, or by clicking here if you so desire.

A Fairy Story

When a friend of mine mentioned she’d like to dress her little 2 year old daughter up as a fairy and get some pictures taken for a story book to give her grandmother for Christmas, I told her I’d love to do it! I had total creative freedom which I used to create a story of dreams and wishes and magic. I thought a video would be a fun way to share it online, and found the perfect song, which fits oh so perfectly.

From what I was told, the grandmother loved her gift and was speechless :)
